Few words about hooded eyes

Brilliant makeup artist Kevyn Aucoin wrote in his Face Forward book: "If you read or hear the words “never” or “always” in a makeup book or at cosmetic counter, run in opposite direction. Makeup should be fun, not fascist". Unfortunately not all of his colleagues share his point of view. For example, some of makeup artists advise girls with hooded eyes to forget about eyeliners, dark eyeshadows, use pale eyeshadows and mascara only and concentrate on their lips (girls with hooded eyes and small lips should vanish, I suppose).

What can I say about this?

Just look at Charlotte Rampling's portrait made for NARS Audacious Lipstick compain and forget all that jazz.

Charlotte has very hooded eyes indeed. You can see it clearly at the shot from Luchino Visconti's movie La caduta degli day / The Damned.

Austrian beauty Romi Schneider had heavy eyelids too, but, as you can see at these shots from Max et les ferrailleurs, they don't hide eyeliner and eyeshadows completely.

Of course, Romi Schneider's makeup from Max et les ferrailleurs is not a good example to follow (Romi played a prostitute in this movie), but you can adjust it applying eyeshadows not till eyebrows but till the eye crease.

Many Asian girl have hooded eyelids but see how elegant eyeliner looks on Maggie Cheung's eyes in Kar Wai Wong's In the Mood for Love movie.

Pretty Moon Gazing Cat Brooch by British brand Pia will look cute on Esteban Coat made by Italian label Pinko. American blanket-scarf Donni Comfy by Donni Charm and Crusader f boots by German brand Trippen will look stylish with these puss and coat, I guess.

How Elsa Schiaparelli made Mae West look thiner and taller

Mae West - the best proof that sex appeal is more about personality, self-confidence and wit than pretty face and tits and hips measurements - was only 5 feet tall and for sure has few extra kg. Elsa Schiaparelli created for Mae West beautiful costumes which made actress look slimmer and taller in comedy Every Day's a Holiday.
Legendary designer used simple tricks (most effective tricks are usually very simple): contrasting vertical lines and patterns on clothes helps you to get rid of 1 or 2 kg and add to your height few inches (only visually) unfortunately.

Right hat can make look taller too.

By the way all those tricks work very well on Lady Gaga, who's not tall too (her height is only 155 cm) and not in her best shape at the moment.

Knitwear in Norwegian style

Cold weather and sweaters with colourful patterns are made for each other. Dutch brand Gaastra made a couple pretty models in this style.

Jumper Careen will look quite fashionable with Isadora Tweed Pencil Skirt by Joules, Ryder Flat Boots by French designers brand Etienne Aigner and Small Pilgrim Day Bag by Roger Vivier.

Here is a bright lipstick on small lips

Guilietta Masina's makeup from Federico Fellini's Giulietta degli spiriti is a good inspiration for girls with small lips who afraid of bright lipstick.

Because of the lightening Guilietta Masina's lips look even brighter, but they don't look vulgar, funny or ugly, that's for sure.

I think Mother Nature created miss Masina perfectly: big lips would destract our attention from here soulful beautiful eyes. Guilietta Masina always inspires me to appreciate my own features and take most of them, to be yourself not somebody else. By the way I can't imagine this ingenious Italian actress going to a beauty clinic and asking to enchance her pout, though I have nothing against fillers, botox and plastic surgery. It's a big challenge to make people love you for who you really are but at the end it's the best gift you can make for yourself.
